The beaches on Lipari offer you everything you may need to spend a pleasant day at the seaside, that is, parasols and beach chairs and kiosks with snacks and fresh drinks. The sea around these islands takes on every possible shade of blue, and the water is so crystal clear that you can see fish below the surface. The many beaches come in all sizes, shapes or forms, that is, with sand and shingles at Canneto; all white sand in the areas where pumice stone is processed at the Spiagge Bianche area; with larger shingles mixed with smallish pumice stones at Porticello and mixed with black obsidian stones at Acquacalda. This location, which is about 10 km away from Lipari proper, and Canneto, where the homes of the workers that toiled in the pumice caves where located. The name probably derives from the fact that the location once featured a thermal spring that no one has ever been able to find. Wild, splashed with rich hues ranging from pinks to yellows, also due to the sulphur content, is the delightful little beach called Valle Muria, which is 300 metres long; the ideal spot to sunbathe until dusk. Also, framed within steep cliffs that have been carved out by the unrelenting wave action, and can only be reached by sea is the charming little beach of Praia Vinci, right across from the faraglioni. At sundown, the magnificent view includes the Menalda and Pietra Lunga faraglioni and the Vulcano island.

THE AEOLIAN ARCHIPELAGO
Sette Perle (i.e. Seven Pearls) embedded in a splendid rainbow of colours that range from black of the lava rock to the sea’s turquoise, and the azure of the sky. A leap into the marvels of art and nature, a place where millenniums of history, art and traditions blend to bring life into one of the most beautiful Mediterranean scenarios.
Due to their invaluable geology, the islands have been granted World Heritage Site status by Unesco. Volcanic creatures born from the coming together of the four elements, that is, air, water, earth and fire, proffering their natural grandeur to tourists, surrounded by an unblemished thriving with sea creatures, sheer cliffs and deep caves, craggy pinnacles called faraglioni made of shiny black rock that form a stark contrast with the purest white sand; a beauty which stretches inland to include the volcanic mountains from which outflows of sulphur steam and red-hot lava provide daily spectacles. These are islands that can be explored in any season, by car, scooter and boat alike, or on foot, by following the many paths that snake through prehistoric villages, up to the top of active volcanoes, along stretches of wild, solitary coats. Each of the isles, is different from the other.

They are harsh, rocky, consumed by wind and wave, and yet each of the isles is a small world in itself. Lipari is the largest of these in the archipelago, and as such is more populated and lively. It is the ideal starting point for anyone wishing to visit the archipelago. Its distinguishing feature is the white, pumice mountain. Salina, is the most bucolic and tranquil of the islands. It is know as the island of capers and Malvasia wine. An island that fascinated the late actor Massimo Troisi, during the shooting of the film “Il Postino” (the Postman). Panarea, is the smallest and most mundane of the seven pearls. Vulcano and Stromboli, are the most recent, their volcanoes still active, and offer unmatched sensations to visitors- especially Stromboli, with its unmatchable pyrotechnic and geological and displays, while Alicudi and Filicudi, the oldest, farthest and most unblemished, are wildly beautiful, and are an ideal destination for anyone wishing silence and solitude.
